How To Play Koshi Chimes

2024-03-25 12:05:00

The Koshi chime is a beautifully crafted instrument that produces a soothing sound when gently moved, reflecting the care and skill put into its creation at the foot of the Pyrenees mountains in France. Its serene melody can transport you to a state of quiet wonder, making it ideal for relaxation, meditation, or yoga practices. Whether hung in a garden or used in a yoga class, the Koshi chime's harmonious tones can provide a calming and grounding experience for all who listen.

Did you know: Holding the Koshi at the very top of its rope (ring), rather than closer to the chime tube, will produce a slightly different sound.

Play your Koshi by hand
Playing the Koshi chime in a circular motion by hand rather than a simple back-and-forth  movement can create a more resonant and ethereal sound. By moving the chime in a circular direction, you are allowing the vibrations to interact and build upon each other, resulting in a richer and more layered auditory experience. This technique can bring out the full potential of the chime's harmonics and create a more immersive and enchanting sound for both the player and the listeners.

Use a chime stand
To use a Koshi chime with a chime stand, simply place the chime securely on the stand so that it hangs freely and can move with the wind. Our stands will provide a stable base for the chime to hang from, allowing it to create its beautiful sound without any obstructions. This setup is ideal for indoor or outdoor spaces where you want the chime to be on display and easily accessible for playing. Just be sure to adjust the position of the chime according to the wind to get the best tone and resonance when playing it.

Let the wind play it - Position is key!
Koshi chimes hung outside can add a lovely decorative touch and soothing sounds to your home's exterior. When choosing where to hang your outdoor chimes, first consider placement. Think about spots where you spend time outside and would enjoy the pleasant tinkling as the chimes sway in the breeze. Once you've decided on placement, examine the location to determine how to hang the chimes. Look for an existing overhang, eave, post, or hook where you can securely hang them. Make sure the location allows the chimes to hang freely to catch the wind. Position them at a height where a breeze will hit the chimes but they won't blow against anything. Angle them outward from the wall or post so they have room to chime and sway.

Outdoor spaces benefit greatly from a set of wind chimes. Their peaceful music enhances time spent outside. With careful consideration of placement and hanging method, you can find the perfect spot to install your chimes where their sounds will add beauty to your landscape. Let the breeze cause the chimes to dance and fill your yard with musical delight. You can also hang your chimes in bushes and trees, if they do not get enough wind, simply put them a little higher.

Please note: Sometimes the area where you like it most, is simply not the are that has enough wind. Try to change the spot. If your chimes are sometimes not chiming enough, check where the wind is generally coming from and change the spot. The area shoud not be too protected by wind.

We recommend a chime stand so you can easily change position of your chime.
